Born and raised in the Ilam electorate Hamish is proud to now serve the electorate as it’s Member of Parliament.
Having attained a PhD in cancer and viruses from Otago University, Hamish’s career began as a cancer research scientist before moving into autoimmune disease and becoming the Deputy Head of Research at Multiple Sclerosis, Australia.
Hamish and his wife, Carol, then chose to return to the Ilam Electorate to raise their two young daughters and together run two businesses- an organic apple orchard and a flower delivery business – in the electorate
Hamish’s passion to stand for Parliament was driven by his desire to see a strong health and education system that gives everyone a fair chance, along with a genuine consideration for our natural environment.
Appropriately Hamish has been appointed deputy chair of the Parliamentary Health Select Committee and is also on the Economic Development, Science and Innovation Select Committee.
