Loch Castle is a former senior regulatory officer from ARPANSA with over 20 years of experience covering the disciplines of nuclear safety, nuclear security and nuclear emergency preparedness and response. During his time at ARPANSA, Loch led the development of a range of national capabilities to support emergency response, nuclear powered warship port validations, security of radioactive materials and improved regulatory compliance monitoring and enforcement activities. Loch was also frequently involved in a range of programs within the IAEA including, supporting the Nuclear Security Guidance Committee, the Emergency Preparedness and Response Expert Group and a range of IAEA-led missions conducted across Southeast Asia.
Loch joined the Nuclear Powered Submarine Task Force in 2022 as an ARPANSA-embedded advisor on nuclear safety regulation, and subsequently joined the Australian Submarine Agency in 2023. Loch holds a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Nuclear Science from the Australian National University.
In his free time, Loch enjoys surfing and hiking around the Illawarra.
