Sharon is currently working for Rio Tinto Closure Technical Services as a Principal Advisor, providing subject matter expert (SME) advice to the Ranger Rehabilitation Project.
Ranger Uranium Mine is located in the Northern Territory and played a pivotal role in the global energy market since its establishment in 1981. It was Australia’s longest continually operating uranium mine and in its 40-year operational life produced 132,000 tonnes of uranium oxide, Mining operations finished in 2012, and the last drum of uranium oxide was produced in 2021 with attention shifting to rehabilitation of the site under the Ranger Rehabilitation Project.
Sharon worked with the teams who delivered the closure studies in 2012 and 2018 then transitioned to the closure execution team at the end of operations where she Manager Closure. She provides technical advice and assurance to the project, leveraging the wider Rio Tinto expertise.
Sharon has a Bachelor of Applied Science in Physical Sciences with over 30 years of experience in radiation protection and environmental radioactivity for uranium mining. She is also a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. Having worked in uranium mining in Australia and internationally she has extensive experience in environmental studies and approvals, rehabilitation and closure and health safety environment.
